Psychosocial consequences of balbuties at young adult age

The topic of the thesis is the psychosocial consequences of stuttering at young adult age. Within the theoretical part, the first chapter defines stuttering, specifically its definition, stages (borderline, incipient, fixed and chronic stuttering), symptomatology and etiology. The second chapter is devoted to the diagnosis and treatment of stuttering, divided into subchapters on diagnosis and therapy. The third chapter, dealing with stuttering in young adults, includes a subchapter on the specifics of young adult age and the life with stuttering in the described age. The theoretical part is followed by an empirical part. The aim of the research investigation was to find out what psychosocial consequences young adult stutterers face and how these can be minimised. To achieve this aim, a qualitative research method was chosen. All the necessary data were collected through semi-structured interviews, which were conducted in two phases - the first interviews were conducted with the stutterers themselves, and after coding the collected data, interviews were conducted with experts who provided their view on the information from the stutterers. The results of the research investigation were used to answer the set research questions and also to define the grounded theory.
Balbuties from an adult perspective with a focus on the psychological impact

The topic of the thesis Stuttering from the perspective of adults with a focus on the psychological impact was chosen based on the experience of the author, who also knew other people struggling with this speech disorder. The thesis consists of four chapters. The first three chapters are theoretical and the fourth chapter is empirical. The first chapter describes the theoretical background, which includes defining the concepts of communication, speech and language, speech development, communication ability and impaired speech fluency. The second chapter deals with stuttering (balbuties), its origins, its causes, communication a person with stuttering, their emotions and experiences, with which psychological tension and anxiety are related. The third chapter focuses on the psychological aspects of the life experience of stuttering, presenting a core part of the theory of the present thesis. Attention is paid to family, education, employment, social interaction, methods of therapy for stuttering - speech therapy, self-confidence and self-concept. Utilization of Elkonin's Method of Phonemic Awareness in Children with Speech Fluency Disorders

The topic of this bachelor's thesis is the possibility of utilization of Elkonin's method of phonemic awareness in children with speech fluency disorders. The theoretical part focuses on general definition of communication and its developement since conception, furthermore it deals with specifics of language levels. Attention is also paid to pre-school children and description of their speech. The last brief chapter characterizes the nature of communication dissabilities in general. Out of existing communication disabilities the theoretical part focuses in detail on fluency Disorders as well namely stuttering and cluttering, their definition, etiology, diagnosis and treatment. Finally the last part describes the topic of phonological skills and Elkonin's method which develops said skills. The empirical part is realized in the form of qualitative research and it is based on analysis of phonemic awareness in observed children before and after the training. Anamnestic data of individual children are introduced as well as direct observation of the training process and subsequent evaluation. Tittle: Speech fluency and motor system relations as the outcome of physiotherapy in comprehensive stuttering treatment Objectives: The aim of this thesis is to summarize the accessible literary sources about functional and structural etiology of developmental dysfluency and its effects on motor system. The next aim of this paper is to research current position of physiotherapy in comprehensive stuttering therapy. Methods: The thesis used literature research method, the specific criteria for the selection of literary sources were stated. The first part contains theoretical ground regarding general issues of dysfluency. The second, descriptive and analytical part contains several chapters describing many studies dealing with functional and organ cause of stuttering, features of stutter motor system of stutterers and the current state of physiotherapy in the issue of stuttering. Results: The thesis points out the fundamental meaning of motor system, particularly motor planning in the ethiopathogenesis of stuttering. The thesis deals with stuttering in adulthood. The first part provides a theoretical basis for using professional literature. It contains theme of communication, communication disorders, stuttering (terminology, incidence, etiology and symptomatology, classification, diagnosis and therapy of selected techniques for adult age), and the International Stuttering Awareness Day. Another theme of the work is the employment of people with stuttering. Thesis also includes advice on how to talk to stutterers and guide phoning for stutterers. The practical part contains its own investigation, processing and results. Assessment of the "New speaking" method in the treatment of stuttering

Name: Assessment of the "New speaking" method in the treatment of stuttering Objectives: Stuttering is a serious speech disorder where the consequences can significantly handicap individuals. Except the common logopedic care, there are also different alternative methods, including group therapy with the name "New speaking". The purpose of this bachelor thesis is to evaluate the effect of this method from the perspective of two graduates. Methods: The main used method was exploratory (interview). Two subjects (female - 26 years old and male - 19 years old) participated in the case study. The interview consisted of fourteen questions. Results: Based on the analysis of the interviews it is possible to state that the "New Speech" method is working when the rules are followed. Absolvents perceive a subjectively significant improvement of speech with social and psychological consequences. Improvement in the social area can be supported by the fact that subjects are able to speak under all conditions and also that they perceive increase of job possibilities. The psychological improvement was less visible. It is suggested to work on their self-confidence and hardiness. Key words: speech disorder, stuttering, group therapy

The aim of this dissertation thesis is to develop a complex diagnostic-therapeutic programme for adults who stutter. The thesis is divided into two parts: theoretical and empirical. The theoretical part consists of 4 chapters and is based on an analysis of foreign and Czech specialized literature, studies and electronic media. This part presents the theoretical basis of the dissertation and shows the topic of stuttering from a broader perspective. It describes how people who stutter (PWS) are affected by this disorder, its effect on speech, how PWS try to cope with it and how their perception, opinions and feelings change. The dissertation describes stuttering in children, adolescents and adults. It deals with the critical period of the onset of stuttering by specifying various risk factors. It also includes a description of other fluency disorders. A special attention is paid to the personality of the therapist and his/her impact on the therapy process.
